Notes on the project:

paul taylor orCHestra is delighted to have been approached by fellow Swiss ensemble, the globe-trotting eos guitar quartet, for a concert collaboration in 2017.

In the center of the program stands the work, „Gismontiana“, (premiered 2008) a large concerto for four Guitars and string orchestra by Leo Brouwer (1939). The important Cuban guitarist and composer wrote„Gismontiana“ as a virtuoso hommage to honor his younger Brazilian colleague, Egbert Gismonti (1947). Jazz? Classic?... Latin!

The musical inspiration unites two generations of Latin American guitar music in „rhythm rigor and romanticism“. An amazing six movement achievement by Brouwer, who has personally conducted the work with eos guitar quartet.

A further highlight of the program will be a new work in the Latin spirit, „Retrato de H.S. a fuego lento“ commisioned by orCHestra for the project by Jacques Demierre (1954) of Geneva, the brilliant pianist, improvisor and composer.
